From the Bank of a Pond

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 7, 2008

These warm sunny days that surround us stimulates many to drag out the fishing rods. Believe me there is nothing like a quiet farm pond. Many farm ponds are now off limits due to so many slobs. That's right all those fishermen who have come before us, who trashed the banks, over fished the resource and who invited their friend without permission. Oh, and let's not forget the gates they left open, which resulted in the cows exiting that open space. This generation of fishermen must strive to do the right thing, so future fishermen can enjoy the banks of a farm pond.

Some have had the experience of the old cane pole and a catfish thrashing about. So, let's leave things as we find them. Pick up the trash, catch and release, ask permission to share the experience with friends and finally leave gates as we find them.

Farm ponds are those precious resources where we can truly enjoy a quiet day on the bank. That's right you really don't need a boat, when a 5 gallon bucket makes a great seat. A place where frogs croak, crickets chirp, birds sing and fresh air is everywhere on the pond bank. Ask permission to bring a friend, or a child and introduce them to the open air of a farm pond.

Where a bucket makes a great seat and a quiet day on the bank is all that really matters. The catch is just icing on the cake. Share it with someone real soon, before the opportunity vanishes. Let's not forget to leave it better than you found it. Pick up some trash and thank the pond owner for the experience. You might even ask if you could clean them a few fish. The view of the world is relaxing from the bank of a farm pond.
