Adriana Ocampo is a space geologist. Learn more about her life and work by viewing the video and exploring the CD-ROM. Five activities in the kit include: Meet Adriana, Crater Maker, Vanishing Craters, Big Time Tour, and Digging into the Past. In Meet Adriana, view the video and learn how she confirmed the presence of the Chicxulub crater in Southern Mexico. Students will study craters and learn how craters take shape and the patterns they make in Crater Maker. In Vanishing Craters, students make a crater model and test the effects of weather on its surface. Big Time Tour allows students to explore the vast span of geological time. Finally in Digging Into the Past, pairs of students make a set of geological layers (strata) and take notes. Then they swap strata, take core samples, read layers and write a history of what happened.
