RISK is a teen pregnancy prevention curriculum, which was developed by the University of Nebraska Extension and marketed by Legacy Resources group. The program utilizes a non-threatening, research –based, simulation that walks participants through three years in the lives of 15 high-school students. Each student in the classroom receives a nametag and is asked to stand whenever the characters name is read. As a narrator reads a script each time a character is involved in a risky situation that could lead to a pregnancy, sexually transmitted infection or HIV/AIDS the characters are connected with a string. The purpose of the curriculum is to teach youth about making responsible choices, the consequences of the choices they make, and the ripple effect that every choice we make has on others. The simulation is followed up by a discussion time. Topics discussed include HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections, abstinence, dating violence, drinking, drugs, values, goals and decision-making.
