Volunteer Screening

At the beginning of each new 4-H year, we are to check our volunteer files to see who needs to be re-screened so they can continue working with our young people. This periodic procedure is necessary for safe-guarding the youth we serve as well as those volunteers giving of themselves. Re-screening is a bit easier than when volunteers were screened as new leaders. We just need a completed CANTS form and the Illinois State Police check. These were sent to all those who are due for re-screening.

Remember, that all leaders do need to re-enroll with the 4-H club they are working with. This is to be done at the beginning of each 4-H year. If you have new leaders, please forward the screening form plus the volunteer application to the Extension office, so everything is in order for your club.

Leaders' Banquet

We are planning to have our 4-H Leaders' Recognition Banquet on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at St. Paul United Church of Christ Hall in Nashville. Time for dinner will be 7 p.m. Letters of invitation have been sent with an R.S.V.P. Please make plans for you and your spouse to enjoy an evening reflecting on our past year's success. We are very thankful for all our volunteers and their work with our 4-H youth. AgriPride FS and Washington County Farm Bureau graciously sponsored this event.

LCP Award

The 4-H Premier LCP Award is sponsored for older 4-H members in Illinois. The purpose of the award is to reward members exhibiting outstanding leadership, citizenship, cooperation, and professionalism during the past

4-H program year (September 1 through August 31). Although all members can apply, the program is designed to recognize and promote achievement in the agricultural industry.

Applicants must be 4-H members who are at least 17 years of age by December 1 and cannot have reached their 19th birthday by September 1 of the year they submit the application. A maximum of two applicants per geographical county may be submitted for the state competition.

Three distinct awards are available through this program. First, the two entries submitted by a county will receive the county LCP Award. Next, the 4-H members with the highest cumulative point total will receive the State 4-H Premiere LCP Award, which will be presented at the Illinois 4-H Leadership Convention.

The final award is the opportunity to attend the Illinois Farm Bureau & Affiliates two-day Premier 20 Leadership Conference. This award will be made available to the ten (10) 4-H'ers with the highest cumulative score who indicate their availability to participate. This conference will begin on Wednesday evening, April 21 and run through Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Illinois Farm Bureau headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois. The Illinois Farm Bureau & Affiliates will pay all necessary expenses (excluding travel and personal purchases) for delegates to the Illinois Farm Bureau & Affiliates Premier 20 Leadership Conference.

The completed application, including the appropriate signatures, as well as the required three (3) Reference Evaluations (two additional Reference Evaluations are optional) must be postmarked by December 15, 2009. For further information contact Roger Greten, Community Worker, at 327.8881.

Achievement Night Awards

The Washington County 4-H Achievement Awards program was held on October 26, 2009 at Nashville Primary School Cafeteria. Achievement awards from the 2008-09 4-H year were given to those 4-H'ers according to the standards set in the Washington County members permanent record and the 4-H Award application. Guidelines for earning awards and assistance scholarships were sent to club members and leaders in the August 2009 newsletter. If there are any questions as to what is required for members to qualify in 2009-10, please call the Extension office at 327.8881. The following recipients were:
