November 2009
A big thank you to Al and Kathy Peeler, Sheri Beck, Deanna Morton, Janet Wright, and Nikki and Amanda Bryant for helping with our Halloween party and making it such a huge success. Check out all the great pics inside the newsletter.
I want to take this time to tell you all how thankful I am for the fabulous volunteers we have in Vermilion County. I am also thankful for all the great 4-H members we have and that I have the privilege of working with the greatest youth. Please take some time this month to let your leaders and volunteers know that you are thankful for the time that they invest. Volunteers please remember to tell the kids and parents in your club that you are thankful for them as well.
Picture yourself in Federation
Picture yourself brainstorming with other youth in the county to make Vermilion County 4-H the best it can be. Picture yourself representing your club in the decisions that are made on a county level. Picture yourself helping to plan the fun activities that happen throughout the county.
PICTURE YOURSELF IN FEDERATION!
Federation will meet Thursday, December 6th at 6pm
Thursday, January 7th at 6pm
at the extension office.
We will be working on planning the lock-in!
Mark your Calendar
The Vermilion County 4-H Federation is sponsoring the annual 4-H Lock-in on Saturday, January 16th at the Extension Office. Last year's Survivor themed event was a huge success. This year we will be doing a crime scene...CSI, NCIS themed event. We will do team building activities, movies, tons of food, and awesome prizes. The theme this year is "Mystery at Clover Lake." The teams will have clues and experiments that will help them figure out who has stolen the precious….. You will have to come to the lock in to find out what was stolen, who was marooned, and what your team can do to get it back, save the day, and win the prizes!
The lock-in will start at 8pm on January 16th and end promptly at 6am on January 17th. Look for permission slips and more information in the next newsletter.
Gifts from the Heart Workshop
On Saturday, December 12th we will host a gifts from the heart workshop at the Extension office from 3-6pm. The workshop will allow 4-H members to make 6 different projects that they can take home and give to others. This workshop will showcase that all these gifts are $5.00 or less. The cost of the workshop is $10.00. This will cover the cost of the materials we will have to purchase. You must RSVP for this workshop no later than December 5th so that we have adequate time to plan.

Email:
I am looking for a way to better communicate what is going on in the county with the members and volunteers. We are currently working on a face book fan page for Vermilion County 4-H where we can post what's going on and have better communication throughout the county. While we are working on this, we realize that not everyone has face book, but many of you do have email. Please make sure that you are filling out that email address portion on your enrollment forms. I promise not to fill your box with spam, only reminders of deadlines, and announcements of what is going on in the county.
Questions about program fee:
Some questions have recently come up about the 4-H program fee. I have been writing about this in the newsletter since last April and understand that many of you have questions and are disappointed that 4-H is no longer a free program. This is a state wide fee, not a local county fee. Enclosed in the newsletter is a fact sheet about the 4-H program fee. The fee here in Vermilion County will be collected in April so you have plenty of time as a club to do a fundraiser to help offset some or all of that cost.
If you have questions please feel free to contact the office.
