Over 40 girls in 7th and 8th grades attended an Advanced Science Siesta at the National Mississippi River Museum in Dubuque, IA. The girls participated in several hands-on activities and helped with tagging butterflies to follow their migration pattern. They were also able to test the quality of the water in the Mississippi River. Girls from the following counties participated: Boone, Carroll,DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle Stephenson, and Winnebago. This event was sponsored by University of Illinois Extension wtih special funding from the Lisa Woessner Memorial Science and Technology Grant and the Northwest Illinois Community Foundation Grant.
