News Release
Downtown Freeport Farmers Market to Open Saturday, May 17
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 30, 2008
This year will be the third year that area farmers will set up shop at the Freeport Farmers Market. Hopefully, people paid attention to the messages learned during the annual Earth Day celebrations and will think about buying locally grown fruits, vegetables, eggs, honey, and meats. It will save the expense of trucking, and provide for farm freshness, unlike anything in the store. The 14 vendors will be offering early season items such as asparagus, farm fresh eggs, rhubarb, spring greens, plants, bulbs and baked goods.
Opening day is May 17, 2008 and the market will continue to run from 8:00 – 11:00 am every Saturday through October 4, 2008. The market is located at the parking lot of the Farm Bureau building at the corner of Galena (US Business 20) and Spring Street.
Events such as cooking demonstrations by the staff of the University of Illinois Extension, flower arranging classes and painting classes by U of I Master Gardeners and other offerings are being planned and will be announced. Music and other activities will also be featured throughout the season. Don't miss the fun, start your summer of with some local foods and see your friends at the Freeport Farmers Market on May 17th .
Please call the University of Illinois Extension-Stephenson County at 815-235-4125 for information about being a vendor or performing at the market.
