4-H and Youth

What Is 4-H?

4-H is the informal, educational youth development program sponsored through the University of Illinois Extension.

The program is offered to all youth between the ages of 5 and 19. Youth who become a part of 4-H can learn about citizenship, leadership, visual arts, mechanics, horticulture, among many other topics. 4-H'ers can decide what they want to know more about by selecting 4-H projects that interest them.

A 4-H project is a practical, challenging, planned group of activities centered around a specific subject. Projects involve setting goals, evaluating progress, and learning new skills and knowledge. There are over 150 projects a 4-H'er may select from.
