Life Skills: Public Adventures

This citizenship curriculum is designed to help youth contribute to the world around them and develop a life-long commitment to active citizenship. Students will plan a project that will create, change, or improve something that is valuable to people. This is what being an active citizen in a democracy is all about. The

Citizenship Guide's Handbook and the Citizenship Adventure Kit work together. Teachers will need both.

Students will need a Citizenship Adventure Kit, plus any section of the Citizenship Guide's Handbook that you think would be helpful to copy for them. The kit includes a map which leads the student through the steps; a passport in which the youth records his project; postcards with helpful tips; notebook dividers that incorporate "adventure" stories of others' experiences and activities; and postcard references for the steps in the journey. The kit is made to fit into a 3-ring binder. You may wish to preview these materials before you request individual copies for your students.
