This video and guide will help to enrich your students' appreciation of art in architecture. The 18-minute video, Prairie Places and Art, looks at different architectural styles found in Illinois. The guide includes instructions for a possible project on putting together an architectural guide of your town or neighborhood. Students sketch significant buildings in the area and then research the history of the building through interviewing community members. Or, your class may decide to pursue a different project related to art history, such as a visit to a local cemetery or working for historic preservation of a neighborhood structure.
