Level 1 members can:

  • learn the difference between a mineral and a rock
  • learn how to identify a fossil

Level 2 members can:

  • use the hardness and streak tests to identify minerals
  • recognize six basic crystal structures of minerals
  • recognize fossils by their general types

Level 3 members can:

  • describe and identify types of rocks found in Illinois
  • understand stages of the rock cycle
  • use specific gravity to identify minerals

Level 4 members can:

  • understand the formation of volcanoes
  • use scientific method to solve problems
  • research areas of geology
