4-H Members

Leadership Opportunities

Members can become involved in their 4-H club or group's leadership activities early, by serving on a committee and completing the duties of that committee. As they become older and more involved, they may want to expand their responsibilities by running for a club office or serving as a club junior leader or assistant.

Many Extension units also have junior high or teen groups that meet and help with county/unit events and programs such as the county 4-H show, community service opportunities, county workshops, etc. Some of these groups may be known as 4-H Ambassadors or the 4-H Federation, as well as other names. If you are junior high age or older, contact your local Extension office for more details on these groups and how you can become involved.

There are a number of regional and statewide leadership opportunities for active 4-H members. Many of these positions require an application process; some may require an interview and extensive selection process. But if you are interested and want to become involved in developing your leadership skills to a higher level, we encourage you to attend regional and state events, get to know about these opportunities and apply! Contact your local Extension office or check out their website for information on regional positions.

Participation in some national events can also offer and lead to positions on national planning groups as well. By attending National 4-H Congress; National 4-H Science, Engineering, and Technology Conference; and/or National 4-H Conference, youth may learn about the national opportunities at these events.
