Peggy Hampton has been associated with Montgomery County Extension since 1994 and currently holds the position ofYouth Development Educator. She provides leadership to the Montgomery County 4-H program and provides educational programming to local schools. Hampton also presents parenting programs and provides youth and family programs to local agencies, schools and community groups.
Peggy is involved with many area agencies and groups including Montgomery County Interagency, Montgomery County Youth Drug Prevention Coalition, Montgomery County Workforce Prep Taskforce, and Montgomery County Food Pantry Committee.
Peggy holds a Bachelor of Science (Home Economics) from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and a Master's (Human Service- Child, Family & Community) from Univeristy of Illinois, Springfield.
Hampton's professional organizations include the Illinois Extension Professionals for Youth Education (IEPYE) and the National Association of Extension of 4-H Agents (NAE4-HA).
Program Offerings
4-H Clubs -- Montgomery County offers eight traditional 4-H clubs for youth ages 8-18 and two Cloverbud Clubs for youth ages 5-7.Youth participate in a local 4-H club through club meetings, project selection, and community service. Youth will learn a variety of skills including leadership, goal setting, project area, and public speaking, in addition to having fun and meeting new friends.
4-H Reading Clubs -- Montgomery County currently provides two 4-H Reading Clubs. The 4-H Reading Clubs meet in Coffeen (1st Tuesday of the month) and in Farmersville (1st Monday of the month) at the local libraries. This program is open to youth Kindergarten through 5th grades.
Colors -- This interactive training helps you gain a perspective on your personality style and the personality styles/tempermant of others. This program is for youth through adult ages and is adaptable for different program areas such as teaching and learning styles, leadership styles, career choices, parenting styles, management styles, etc.
Character Education -- Character education programs include the Six Pillars of Character for youth, familyand school audiences, Terrificc Teachable Moments for teachers and families and Workplace Ethics.
Jr. Leadership Academy -- This program is open to any sophomores, juniors and/or seniors in Montgomery and Macoupin counties with the permission of their high school principal. Students will learn about leadership styles, how to build teams, how local businesses are organized, and career opportunities in the two-county area. This program runs September through May.
Welcome to the Real World -- is a simulation of what it is like to work and pay bills in the real world. Youth will select a career, receive their wages for one month and pay their bills based upon the lifestyle choices they made. This program is very interactive and educational.
Wonderwise Science Kits -- These kits introduce you to women who have made science a career. The comprehensive instructional package includes a video, activity book and CD-ROM. Appropriate for grades 4th - 6th but adapatable for younger and older ages. The kits available are: Sea Otter Biologist, Pollen Deteective, Vet Detective, Rainforest Ecologist, Parasite Sleuth, African Plant Explorer, Urban Ecologist, Space Geologist, and Genetic Counselor.
Science Kits -- are available for loan in the areas of Illinois Trees, Illinois Birds, Illinois Mammals, Geology, Recycling, and Electricity.
