Rhonda Ferree has been with University of Illinois Extension since 1988, working in several capacities. Ferree worked ten years at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana as a Specialist in Pesticide Safety Education. In 1998, Ferree moved to Fulton County where she served first as unit educator in horticulture and crops and later as County Extension Director. In 2006, Ferree was named to the position of Associate Regional Director.
Ferree holds a bachelor of science in ornamental horticulture and master of science in horticulture from the University of Illinois. She worked for a commercial landscape company before joining University of Illinois Extension.
Ferree has received numerous awards. In 1997, she won the ACES Professional Staff Award for Excellence for her innovative and creative educational efforts in pesticide safety education in Illinois.
In 2003, Ferree, along with the Fulton Unit, won the Unit Excellence Award from University of Illinois Extension for maintaining strong traditional programs while developing and implementing innovative programs. In 2004, she and two colleagues won the team award for outstanding or innovative program for their work Fighting West Nile Virus in Fulton County. In 2005, she and a group of colleagues won the team award for their work on the Fulton County Fee Hunting Workshop. In 2005 she was received the Excellence in Extension award - less than 10 years in a Unit.
Ferree is a member of the Illinois Extension Agricultural Association (IEAA) and the National Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA). She has won numerous communications awards through IEAA and NACAA and received the NACAA Achievement award in 2004. Other professional affiliations include Epsilon Sigma Phi (ESP) and Environmental Education Association of Illinois (EEAI).
In 2005, Ferree participated in NELD North Central (National Extension Leadership Development) and was awarded the Pat Buchanan Administrative Internship, where her main project focus was the Globalization of University of Illinois Extension.
