Patti Faughn is a family life educator with University of Illinois Extension. She received her master's degree in education including a graduate certificate in infant studies from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research included parent/child interaction and program design and implementation.
Faughn is certified in Real Colors, an analysis in personality types from the National Curriculum and Training Institute; Bridges Out of Poverty, social classes training from Aha; and How to Avoid Marrying a Jerk(ette). She is active in the National Extension of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS), Epsilon Sigma Phi (ESP) and the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR).
Faughn is co-author ofthree resources for teachers, child care providers and families:
- Terrific Teachable Moments for Families,
- Terrific Teachable Moments for Pre-K through 2nd grade, and
- Terrific Teachable Moments for 3rd through 6th grade;
Faughn is co-author of Your Young Child, a curriculum for parents of young children on seven challenging early behaviors of young children most linked to child abuse.
Her most recent professional awards include Extension's 2007 Outstanding Innovative Program Team Award for Your Young Child; 2007 NEAFCS National Educational Technology Team Award for Your Young Child; 2006 NEAFCS National Early Childhood Child Care Training Award for Terrific Teachable Moments.
Although Faughn presents information on all areas of family life, her area of expertise is in educational programs and written materials on child development, parenting, and relationship issues for both professionals and families.
Parent Programs include workshops such as You and Your New Baby, Learning to Say Goodbye, The Exploring Toddler, When All You Hear Is No, Toilet Learning, Love Sets Limits: Beyond the No Stage, Building Character in the Home, Raising Responsible Kids, Terrific Teachable Moments, Teen RISK.
Child care provider training includes loan out videos, and face to face training in Macoupin, Greene, Logan, and Sangamon counties.
Teen Workshops include Breaking the Code (bullying), Teen RISK, Colors Personality and Anger and Stress Management.
Adult Programs include workshops such as Color Personality, Poverty Simulation, Laughter in Your Life, Intentional Harmony: Work/Life Balance, Building a Better Memory, Date Your Mate, Who Gets Grandma's Yellow Pie Plate, Stress Management, and How to Avoid Marrying a Jerk(ette).
