Nutrition, Family Life and Consumer Science

Nutrition Programming monthly to developmentally disable adults for Shelby County Community Services.

Family Life and Nutrition & Wellness has also provided workshops that all local citizens may participate in. This years workshops included:

  • Schemes, Scams and Flim Flams
  • Food and Fitness-Fact or Fiction
  • Forgiveness
  • Where Do I Want to Live When I Grow Up.

Wellness Fair for residents of the county and for family members who provide or will be providing care for family members. Attendance has ranged from seventy to one hundred ten. The information provided included:

Information on services and outreach by agencies

  • Information on services and outreach by health care providers
  • Nutrition educational outreach
  • Financial planning/management educational outreach
  • Medical screenings
    • nearly all the participants took advantage of at least one screening
    • 15 to 20 per fair have been advised to seek follow up with a medical care provider

Bus tours for members of HCE Clubs and residents of the County designed to provide educational outreach on the historical significance of the many sites within one day driving distance of Shelby County, a view of some of the natural beauty in the area, and an opportunity for positive social interaction especially among senior citizens of the area.
