4-H and Youth Development

  • 387 youth enrolled in Shelby County 4-H (17 community clubs, 1 school club, 3 specialty clubs, 1 cloverbud club)
  • 38 MCA members - meet monthly with activities and learning food nutrition and safety, hand washing, planting and maintaining flowers at the fairgrounds
  • Shelby County 3rd grade - butterfly life cycle
  • 14 federation members responsible for county 4-H activities- barbecue served 1200+, ag Olympics- 38 participants, 4-H Fire-up - 18 1st & 2nd yr members & 9 parents, craft day - 46 participants, nursing home activities with residents, provided items for troops overseas, provided 4-H week activities (Amazing Road Race - 6 teams, skating party - 175+, window displays - 8 clubs, public speaking - 6 participants), provided, served 26 leaders at appreciation dinner; and provided program for county achievement
  • County workshops - clothing, 9 participants; aerospace, 10 participants; electricity, 14 participants; rabbit & poultry, 36 participants; photography, 16 participants
  • Judging Contests - horse bowl and hippology, 8 members (county, regional & state); livestock, 6 members (county, regional); horticulture, 1 member (State and National)
