Volunteer Opportunities

ECO-Camp Help Needed

Attention all Master Naturalists who love to get outdoors, learn about forestry, prairies and wildlife, and spend time with 4th–6th grade students! You are invited to volunteer at the Fall 2006 ECO-Camp at Loud Thunder Forest Preserve on Wednesday, September 27th and Thursday, September 28th from 8:45 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Working side-by-side with local experts helping them with their presentations as needed.
  • Being a trailblazer – aiding teachers in moving their students from one station to the next, and keeping the presenters on time.
  • Helping serve lunch to the presenters.

Muscatine Area Volunteer Work Day

The Nature Conservancy is planning a Volunteer Work Day at Swamp White Oak Preserve on Saturday, October 14th to collect native lowland savanna grasses and sedges. The workday will be just outside of Muscatine near the town of Conesville, IA.
Work hours will be 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., with a field trip planned before hand from 9:00 - noon.
Bring work gloves, drinking water, and snacks, and please invite your friends and family.

Enthusiastic Volunteers Needed

Black Hawk State Historic Site is in need of volunteers for the following events and activities:

  • Program Publicity – creating flyers and posters
  • "Unhuggables" Program – October 20th, 6:00-8:00 p.m. – lots of volunteer jobs available
  • Feed Birds at Singing Bird Nature Center
  • Guides to lead hikes on trails for youth and adults
  • Take photos of the park or at park events
  • Lead programs in the park on various topics
  • Write articles for the Foundation newsletter about the park
  • Carpentry, Painting, etc. – skills needed to assist with Nature Center improvements
  • Nature Center Cleaning – window washing, outside maintenance, etc.
