Agricultural Literacy
Why teach about agriculture? Agriculture is relevant to the lives of your students. Regardless of whether they live in a city, town, or in the country, farming and the agricultural industry provide their food, clothing and many everyday products. Agriculture fits every subject area. Agricultural concepts can enhance your curriculum in language arts, math, science, social studies, and more. An understanding of Agriculture can prepare your students for a fulfilling career. One of every six working people in the U.S. is employed within the ag industry.

    The Multiple Species Grazing Conference will highlight the addition of meat goats or sheep, cattle or horse grazing operations in Illinois for a more sustainable pasture system with more profit potential per acre. The program will focus on the advantages and risks of mixing pastured livestock species. The program schedule will run from 9-3 at each location with registration beginning at 9:00 AM. Registration fee: $30 per person; second person from farm $20; late registration $35/25 per person. Register online at http://www.extension.uiuc.edu/macombcenter
