Embryology

Students will have the opportunity to see the process of going from an egg to a newly hatched chick within the classroom. They will be able to see the important steps required within the process. This unit is divided into lessons for students in grades 2-5, and lessons for students in grades 6-8. Within these lessons, students will:

  • Identify parts of eggs
  • Select chicken breeds by their characteristics
  • Incubate a fertile egg
  • Collect data about embryos and chicks
  • Prepare a candler
  • Observe embryos
  • Handle chicks safely
  • Understand chicken behavior for better care and management
  • Explore careers in the poultry industry
