Students will have the opportunity to see the process of going from an egg to a newly hatched chick within the classroom. They will be able to see the important steps required within the process. This unit is divided into lessons for students in grades 2-5, and lessons for students in grades 6-8. Within these lessons, students will:
- Identify parts of eggs
- Select chicken breeds by their characteristics
- Incubate a fertile egg
- Collect data about embryos and chicks
- Prepare a candler
- Observe embryos
- Handle chicks safely
- Understand chicken behavior for better care and management
- Explore careers in the poultry industry
