Students will have the opportunity to learn about the different uses and important features of trees. They will be able to create a piece of paper, explain the life of a tree by examining the stump, and learn about the ways trees spread their seeds. Within these lessons, students will:

  • Estimate how long it took to grow a piece of wood that shows annual rings
  • Tell the approximate age of a conifer from the whorls of branches
  • Identify some of the edible products obtained from trees
  • Demonstrate the use of various tree-measuring devices
  • Describe the basic paper-making process
  • Explain the events in the life of a tree by interpreting evidence on its stump
  • Describe the process by which a see is produced by a plant
