Geology

Children will be able to learn about the different types of rocks found on the earth. The students will learn how these rocks are created, and will look at different examples of these geological forms. Within these lessons, students will:

  • Identify characteristics that make some rocks similar and some rocks unique
  • Choose the right tools to use in the field to collect rocks
  • Be able to recognize the characteristics of a mineral and understand how rocks are formed.
  • Create a model of a sedimentary rock using white glue and sand or gravel
  • Create a model of a metamorphic rock using loaves of bread and margarine
  • Understand how rocks are constantly being recycled
  • Relate to the stages of the rock cycle
  • Recognize the way in which rocks follow a grand scheme of recycling and knowing the sequence of that scheme
