University of Illinois Extension in Pike County is committed to improving the quality of life for individuals and their communities. By providing educational programs within the areas of: Agriculture and Natural Resources, 4-H Youth Development, Community and Economic Development, and Nutrition Family and Consumer Sciences, the Pike Extension Unit is focused on helping their citizens "Put Knowledge to Work!"

Weekly Tip

From Public Speaking to Dogs to Foods, Pike County 4-H members will share their skills and knowledge in many project areas at this year's 4-H Shows. It's that time of year again for youth to exhibit what they've been working on all year.

The 2009 Pike County 4-H Shows kick-off with the Home Economics Show on June 18 at the Pike County Farm Bureau Hall. Livestock Shows to be held at the Western Illinois Fairgrounds in Griggsville are June 24 - Sheep, Goats, Poultry and Rabbits; June 25 - Beef Show and Swine Show; June 26-Master Showmanship and the 4-H Livestock Sale. June 27 is the 4-H Cat Show and June 28 is the 4-H/FFA Dairy Show. There will be project displays, a fashion revue and public speaking demonstrations at the fair also.

The General Project Show is July 9 at the American Legion Building in Pittsfield, and the 4-H Horse Show will be held July 11 at the Pike County Fairgrounds in Pleasant Hill.

The 4-H program in Pike County is all about helping young people learn important skills like responsibility, decision-making, leadership and communication. We invite you to explore 4-H in Pike County with us!
