Virginia Kuo

Unit Educator, Youth Development

Virginia Kuo received a master of science in education from Illinois State University. Kuo also has earned 30 credit hours toward a doctoral program in education from Illinois State University. Besides, Kuo earned a bachelor of arts in teaching English as a second language and a master of arts in modern English from Hulan Teachers College and Shengyang Teachers College, China, respectively. Prior to her career with University of Illinois Extension, Kuo had been a teacher/professor at both K-12 and college levels.

Kuo is an active member of National Association of Extension 4-H Agents (NAE4-HA), the Illinois Extension Professionals of Youth Education (IEPYE), Extension State 4-H Curriculum Committee, Extension State Diversity Committee and Extension State Affirmative Action Committee.

At the county level, Kuo leads the 4-H youth development program. She coordinates 4-H Expansion & Review committee and collaborates programming efforts with other local educational organizations/agencies/serves. Some of these organizations are Youth Service Net Panel, Boys & Girls Club, Illinois Community College Board and Area Planning Council. Kuo networks with local media to publicize 4-H and Extension.

Kuo has been honored with several awards including "Achievement in Service Award" "Excellence Teen Programming – national winner" and "Success Stories Winner." Those awards are from NAE4-HA, IEPYE and locally.

Program Offerings

Kuo's program offerings include on-going school enrichment programs to all schools in Peoria County. "Service-learning" and "Character Education School-wide" are the two programs that involve a large number of student participants. Diversity/multi-cultural education is another focus of her programming.

Kuo offers in-service workshops/seminars/ training opportunities for teachers, educators and administrators of Peoria County. She is certified to offer CPDUs to workshop participants.

Kuo provides leadership in programming with 4-H volunteers/youth, including member/volunteer recruitment, volunteer orientation, management and recognition, 4-H workshops, 4-H Show and a variety of other events year around.
