Another month has flew by! Where did the time go? The fair is over and the gardens are
producing. Soon it will be fall again. My grandfather said years ago..."the older you get
the faster time flies"....he was right! Speaking of crops and gardens...any takers for the
ICC demo garden? If so, contact Sunita or Phil. Hope to see all of you at the next
meeting. Remember: Wear your nametags!

Peoria County MG Minutes - 07/18/07
Approximately 19 members attended the MG meeting on July 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the
Extension Auditorium.
On the state level, the planning is underway for the annual convention, which will be
held September 6, 7 & 8 in Springfield, IL. The Peoria group will be manning the
registration table. If you are registered, please see Kathy Hasselberg with your time
slot requests for this job. If you are not registered, see the last issue of the "Imagine"
newsletter for the agenda and registration information. If you have an interest in
garden tours, there are now two more openings for the U. of I. MG trip to Costa Rica
January 21-31 due to a cancellation. Currently, there are four couples from Peoria
signed up.
Volunteer Projects:
The project gardens are all going well. Of special note, there is a critical need for
volunteer help at the I.C.C. Demonstration Garden. Volunteers may come any day at
any time. A "to do" list is kept in the mailbox at the garden so direction is always
available for the volunteer. Tools are available in the I.C.C. lab building. And
wouldn't you like to attend the Garden Country Harvest meeting in Bartonville this
month? Fran Stagg will be their speaker, arranged through the Speakers' Bureau. Her
topic will be "Growing, Harvest, and the Use of Herbs".
Recurring Events/Activities:
Jubilee Herb Garden
- Nancy Lemieux reported that the garden is sadly infected
with mosaic virus. Plants have been removed. In September MG involvement will
begin again. At the Bartonville Farmer's Market shoppers may pick up some seed
packets and information on how to collect seeds from the MG booth this week.
ICC Landscape and Garden Day
- This event will be September
8. The MG's will have an informational booth. Volunteer
help will be needed, so please answer "yes" when Margie Karl,
the chairperson, calls you.
New Business/Opportunities
- Larry Stratton will be performing
in Corn Stock's next play. Get your tickets now and clap for
Larry! Margie Karl will be visiting projects in the next week to
take pictures. Lee Hammond attended the Telnet on Emerald Ash
Borer. Be sure to check the list of susceptible trees in this
newsletter before purchasing any new trees this year.
Our sympathies and prayers go to Roger Larson whose mother
has died, and Lynn Webb whose brother died this week.
Following the business meeting, Rick Smith told us his experiences
learning about moss gardening. He brought samples of
different mosses for each MG to take home, as well as an
instructional sheet. Thanks to Rick, we can now try our hand at a
somewhat different gardening venue.
Next meeting will be Aug 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the Extension
Auditorium. Ella Maxwell from D.A. Hoerr's will speak after the
business meeting.
