2008 Election of Board Members for the Illinois Soybean Program Operating Board

The 2008 election of board members for the Illinois Soybean Program Operating Board and Land of Lincoln Soybean Association (both organizations d/b/a Illinois Soybean Association), has been set for Tuesday, July 8 at each county extension office in the districts where a vacancy exists. In an attempt to aid farmers in voting, as well as the extension offices in conducting the elections, the elections will be combined for the Illinois Soybean Association, the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, and the Illinois Sheep and Wool Marketing Board.

Interested and qualified soybean farmers may become candidates for the Illinois Soybean Association Board of Directors. The qualifications for board members are as follows: (1) must be a resident of the State of Illinois and a resident producer of the district in and for which they are nominated and elected; (2) must be of legal voting age; and (3) must be subject to the soybean checkoff.

District 1 includes Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Carroll, JoDaviess, Stephenson, Boone and Winnebago Counties. Each person desiring to become a candidate must file petitions with the Illinois Director of Agriculture containing the signatures of at least 250, or 5%, whichever is less, of soybean producers from their district. The number of signatures required for district one in this year's election is 178. Such petitions must be filed by May 15, 2008.

You may pick up a petition at your local U of I Extension office. In Ogle County call 815-732-2191 or visit the Extension office at 421 W. Pines Road, located on the south side of Oregon, in the Ogle County Farm Bureau building.
