The "IL 4-H Clover" contains a list of all the projects being offered in IL 4-H this year for members, ages 8-18 by 9/1/09. Get yours from a local club leader today! All 4-H members are required to enroll in at least one project each year.
The Illinois 4-H Enrollment Policy states that youth who are between 8 and 18 by September 1st (or in at least 3rd grade) may enroll as members. Cloverbuds must be 5-7 years old (and not in the 3rd grade) by September 1st of the current 4-H year.
All 4-Hers who intend to exhibit at the 2010 Ogle County 4-H Fair MUST be enrolled in the projects of their choice by April 15, 2010. This deadline applies to ALL project areas.
Be aware that the Extension staff cannot accept 4-H enrollment forms from anyone other than leaders! Once your enrollment forms are complete, please turn them in to your club leaders for processing.
4-Hers who are attending college may enroll as members of the Ogle County Collegiate 4-H Club. Participation in this capacity makes it possible for long-term 4-Hers to complete their 4-H careers through county involvement during school breaks and summer months without club or Federation meeting requirements.
The Collegiate 4-H Club is county-based. Members are NOT expected to enroll in community clubs. Instead, they work directly with the Extension staff to complete 4-H Contracts resulting in 12 hours of county level service. For membership guidelines and service options, contact the Extension office.
Ogle County 4-H members who wish to exhibit at the 2010 Ogle County 4-H Fair must have…
Attended a minimum of 50% of the club meetings held since joining. (Note: The "join" date is September 1 for all youth who are continuing membership for consecutive 4-H years. The "join" date for new members is the first club meeting attended.) You must be present for a minimum of 45 minutes of a club meeting to be counted present.
OR
Fulfilled those obligations established and agreed upon in a properly signed and filed 4-H Agreement (contract).
*It is the responsibility of club leaders to insure that this policy is enforced and attendance data is maintained. The Extension staff will resolve any problem situations that occur in the process of applying this rule. Their decisions will be final.
Worried that you won't quite make 50% of your club's meetings? Want to make sure you can still qualify to show at the 4-H Fair if you can't make enough meetings?
4-H Contracts are available to help you in this situation. Available from club leaders and in the Extension office, contracts are for use by 4-Hers who are overwhelmed by academic, extra-curricular, and 4-H club responsibilities.
Contracts must be complete and on file in the Extension office by January 1 (for re-enrolling members) and by April 15 for all new members.
In compliance with Illinois 4-H Policies, the Extension office is required to have a signed copy of the Code of Conduct on file for every Ogle County 4-H member.
Each new member will receive two copies of the Code of Conduct attached to their enrollment forms. Parents and members need to thoroughly read this form and sign it. One copy should be returned to the 4-H leader, so he/she can turn it into the Extension office. The second copy is yours to keep.

VIRTUAL 4-H FILMAKING STUDIO & WORKSHOP
The Virtual 4-H Filmmaking Studio and Workshop has been officially launched and is located at www.4-H.org/curriculum/filmmaking. It was developed in collaboration with Montana State University. The Filmmaking Studio and Workshop is the online space to find tools and resources about video production and "how to make your own film". On the home page of the site, you'll find the main Filmmaking Workshop – an 11 module "virtual workshop", geared toward youth interested in making Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) films. The workshop discusses SET as a primary topic area and a delivery mode, but the learning modes and principles apply across mission mandate areas – SET, Healthy Living, and Citizenship. Happy Filmmaking!
If you have not explored the 4-HCCS Project Online Website, plan to check-out this resource. There are additional activities, interactive games, background information and links to other websites for many project areas. Go to www.n4hccs.org and click on "Project Online". You will find many new and exciting ideas for making 4-H project work fun and hands-on. Many instructions, designs, patterns, how-to guides and activities are provided at no cost and are downloadable from the web.
It is time to sign up for 4-H projects again! The 4-H year began on September 1st and will end next August 31st. Between now and then, 4-Hers sign up for 4-H projects, work through the activities in the corresponding project manuals, create project exhibits for the fair, and complete records telling what they learned. 4-H projects are intended to be long-term studies. That's why you have a full year to complete them!
CHOOSE PROJECTS CAREFULLY
Sign up only for the projects you're sure you'll have time to finish. Remember, you're expected to complete records and exhibit a product for every project you enroll in. Don't burn yourself out next summer by signing up for too much now.
MOST 4-H MANUALS ARE INTENDED TO REQUIRE THREE YEARS TO COMPLETE. This is especially true of project manual series that have three levels: I, II, and III.
YOUR MANUAL IS ONLY ONE TOOL YOU'LL USE TO COMPLETE YOUR PROJECT. Project manuals help direct learning. In order to complete them, however, you'll need to visit the library and talk to experts. Attend workshops. Take tours. Additionally, check with the Extension office and find out if it has project support materials that can help you. Do whatever it takes to prepare yourself so you can create a project exhibit for the fair and expand your knowledge. Being in 4-H is all about figuring out how and where to get the information you need to accomplish the things you set out to do.
The Ogle County 4-H Family Guide is filled with important information about our 4-H program. It can be used as a valuable reference tool. New 4-H families will receive a copy of this publication when they receive their project manuals. Veteran families should already have a copy. If you can't find yours, contact the Extension office.
The Extension office has a number of resources available to assist in project completion. In fact, we have "project support files" for nearly every project area. Each contains brochures, articles, pamphlets, etc. Call to see how much is available in your project area. Then, stop in and look through the file. We'll copy the things you'd like to keep for future reference. (Materials are being added all the time.) Many project areas have leader guides available. Any parents wishing to purchase a leader guide to assist their 4-Her is encouraged to contact the Extension office.
