The 2009 Illinois State Fair is set for August 14-23. State Fair Junior Department Exhibition is open to "…any boy or girl who is enrolled as a 4-H member and was at least 10 years old as of September 1, 2008."
Each year Ogle County has the opportunity to select 4-Hers to represent the county program in the Junior Department exhibit building competition at the Illinois State Fair. 4-Hers selected for this honor will receive bright green rosettes during judging at the local 4-H Fair. Alternates receive hot pink rosettes.
Again this year, at the Illinois State Fair, there will no longer be any static displays; instead all State Fair eligible projects will be conference-judged. This means that if a 4-Her wants to exhibit at the State Fair, he/she needs to travel down state to participate in conference judging. Ogle County's date for conference judging at the Illinois State Fair is Sunday, August 23. Anyone enrolled in Consumer Education, Robotics, Electronics, or Geospatial will be judged on Saturday, August 22.
More details will be available at the State Fair Orientation held on Thursday, July 30th, at 7 p.m. in the exhibit building at our county fairgrounds. Families who absolutely cannot attend State Fair orientation should discuss their intentions with Cathy at the Ogle County Extension Office by Noon on Thursday, July 30, 2009 prior to the orientation session. Please call (732-2191) or email (canders3@illinois.edu) Cathy with your intentions if you absolutely cannot attend State Fair. If we do not hear from you before orientation it will be assumed you do not wish to go to State Fair and we will offer your spot to the alternate. Once an alternate has been given a spot, it can not be taken back.
STATE FAIR ADVISORY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The State Fair Junior Department Advisory Committee is looking for 4-H volunteers. Applicants must be 4-H members, 4-H volunteers, or parents. Youth must be a minimum of 15 years of age as of September 1, 2009. Completed applications are due by August 24th. For more information or a copy of the application, please call the Extension Office.
Tickets for Illinois State Fair grandstand shows are now on sale. They may be purchased through Ticketmaster (800-745-3000) or online through the State Fair website at:
http://www.agr.state.il.us/isf/gstand/. All sales are final. Ticket prices vary by show.
