GRANTS AVAILABLE

Illinois 4-H Foundation in partnership with Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. and Country Insurance & Financial Services offers 4-H clubs small grants for community project expenses. Grants will be funded in amounts of $50 to $250 per club for 4-H Community Improvement projects or Health and Safety related projects. While individual clubs may apply and be considered in both categories, they can only be awarded in one of the two grant categories. All proposals are due to the State 4-H Office by January 4, 2008. Contact the Extension office for more information.

Hamburger Helper, a General Mills food brand, is also looking to lend a "helping hand" to neighborhoods across the United States with its "My Hometown Helper" grant program. Individuals from communities and organizations across America can visit the program website to submit a written essay describing how the "My Hometown Helper" grant would help improve their community project. Examples of possible community projects include: lights or bleachers for athletic fields; repairs to a band shell; computers for the local school or library; playground equipment; holiday decorations for Main Street; money for field trips; new uniforms for athletic teams; clean-up projects; and training for volunteer firefighters.

Applicants can request a one-time award of $500 to $15,000 during any single month. The program will award "helping hand" grants each month from online applications received through March, 2008. Applications will be evaluated monthly. Funds will be awarded based on the merit of the project, including its impact and support within the community. For more information on the "My Hometown Helper" program and complete guidelines,

visit the programs' website: http://fconline.foundationcenter.org/pnd/10004569/myHometownHelper.
