The winter months are VERY fun months in 4-H land. This is the time for many exciting and educational events. Look through this HOTLINE to learn about them!
Additionally, keep in mind that once you've got your 4-H project manuals for the year, you need to flip through them and pick out a few activities in each one that you'd like to complete during the next few months. What do you want to learn more about in your project areas? What would you really like to make or do? What would you enjoy telling your fellow club members about during a talk or demo? Figure those things out and get started right away! Holiday break is NOT too soon to jump into 4-H work with both feet!
Happy New Year!
BAD WEATHER NOTICE
If you're planning to attend a 4-H event this winter, but driving conditions are questionable, call before coming! We will notify WRHL radio station (AM 1060, FM 102.3) of cancellations.
OFFICE HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
The Extension office will be closed for the holidays on the following:
Each year, schools in Ogle County participate in our 4-H chick embryology project and we have chicks that need homes. If you would like to be the recipient of some of these chicks, please let our office know. We should have chicks available at the beginning of March and May. We would like to know which month you would prefer to receive chicks and how many you would like to take. Since the number of chicks available depends on the success of the hatch, we will put you on a list on a first come, first serve basis. These chicks are free, but may require testing prior to the 4-H Fair (depending on the egg source). Call the Extension Office if you would like to have your name added to our list.
JUNIOR LEADER 4-H UNIVERSITY
The Junior Leader University is an on-line course for 4-H Jr. Leaders that will give participants new ideas about what they can do as a Jr. Leader. Participants will be given a chance to practice leadership skills and make their clubs better. Each lesson and activity should only take about an hour to complete. For more information on how to sign-up, contact the Extension office.

COUNTY BOARD CORRESPONDENCE
Clubs are encouraged to keep the Ogle County Board members knowledgeable about what they are doing. You can make your efforts as elaborate or simple as you'd like; but please do be sure to give your assigned person a true picture of what your club and members are doing, learning, and involved in. Send notes, newspaper clippings, club videos, member-compiled booklets, or whatever trips your trigger. Assignments for '07-'08 are below. If there are any members, junior leaders, or parents that would like to coordinate these efforts for your club please let your leader know. This is an excellent leadership opportunity. If you have any questions, please call the Extension office.
