Fall 2007
4-H Federation
FEDERATION NEWS
The 4-H Federation closed out its 2006-2007 Agriculture program theme with a tour of the John Deere Historic Site on the night of its July Business meeting and officer elections. During fair week, the group hosted the annual 4-H Cloverbud and Tea Parties; sponsored the 4-H Pentathlon; and provided overall support for the 4-H Children's Farm.
Federation members kicked off the 2007-2008 program year on September 20th. During that meeting, members reviewed summer activities and discussed plans for the months to come. After a bit of brainstorming and discussion, the group selected "Environment & Natural Resources" for its new program theme.
Federation committees are currently working on plans for the Achievement Day '07, Advanced Day of Dabbling, and the annual Federation Campfire.
Since the meeting, the officer team met to establish the Federation calendar. They are trying to coordinate presentations on beekeeping, geodes, outdoor survival, careers in conservation, and GPS; as well as outings to include canoeing, fishing, a visit to a local tree farm, and a trip to the National Mississippi River Museum in Dubuque, IA.
New officers for 2007-2008 are:
President Laura Overmyer (By-Y-Badgers)
V-Pres Felicia Coleman (G. Detour Greens)
Secretary Karen Gallant (L.R.S.E.)
Treasurer Lindsay Hoyle (G. Detour Greens)
Reporter Catherine Gallant (L.R.S.E.)
Historian Haley Shores (Forreston Friskies)
Sentinel Melissa Homman (L.R.S.E.)
Recreation Co-Chairmen David Shuman (Pine Creek Valley) & Taylor Reeverts (By-Y-Badgers)
All 4-H members who are 12 years or older are invited to participate in Federation. Call the Extension office to be added to the mailing list or send an email to canders3@uiuc.edu.
