The 2008 State Fair Junior Horse Show will be July 22-27.

The Ruby Holmquist Scholarship is awarded each year by the Horsemen's Council of Illinois to honor the memory of late HCI Director, Illinois trails advocate and Past President of Illinois Trail Riders Association, Rudy Holmquist. For a copy of the guidelines and an application form for the scholarship contact the Extension Office. The scholarship is available to any experienced horse student. The deadline to submit the scholarship is December 31, 2007

Camp Ondessonk is located in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois, on 981 acres of pristine natural beauty. A variety of trail rides are available from $15 - $25 per person. On November 10, 2007 from 9:00 – 2:30 p.m. a workshop is being held at the Cook County Farm Bureau in Countryside, IL. This workshop is for both horse owners and those considering horse ownership. It is designed to help you make wise decisions prior to purchasing a horse and to educate you about proper choices should you already own a horse. Advanced Registration is due by November 2, 2007 for $30 per person. Late Registration or Walk-ins are $45 per person.

The 2007 Multi-State Horse Judges and Show Manager Conference is scheduled for November 16-18 in East Lansing, Michigan. At the conference, horse judges and horse show managers may obtain training in horse judging and horse show management from leading experts in the field. The Ogle County 4-H Horse Bowl and Hippology Team have been practicing hard again this year. All horse enthusiasts are invited to join this year's team. To learn more call Coach Gretchen Johnson at 742-1655 or the Extension office at 732-2191.

The 4-H Horse Bowl and Hippology team went to the Morab Nationals in Sterling, IL. In Horse Judging and Hippology, Catherine Gallent placed first overall in the youth competition, Jody Diehl placed second overall in the youth competition, and Lizzie Stauffer placed third overall in the youth competition! Also, Jody Diehl placed second in the judging competition and Lizzie Stauffer placed sixth in the judging competition. In the adult division, Sue Gallant placed third! Congrats to everyone!
