After tying on aprons, students will measure and mix ingredients to create homemade loaves of honey wheat bread. The importance of whole grains in a healthy diet, teamwork, and the roles various ingredients play will be stressed. In the end, each student will have a loaf of bread to take home and share with his or her family.
A complimentary educational packet is available to classroom teachers upon request.
4-H Bread Programs last a solid 90 minutes each. Up to two sessions can be conducted daily – morning and afternoon. Long rectangular tables provide the best work surface. Fee per classroom is $20. NOTE: If the teacher is able to bake students' bread at the school and package the bread for students to take home with provided supplies, the classroom fee will be reduced to only $12.
Due to the high demand for this program, Extension asks that schools limit their participation to one grade level per building.
Call the Extension office to reserve a date and time for the presentation. Then, complete the appropriate sections of the accompanying registration form and return it.
If more than one teacher in your building is interested in doing this program, please coordinate dates and times with other teachers before calling. Registrations will be accepted beginning at 8:00 a.m. on January 9.
