Focus on Partnerships

University of Illinois Extension is the flagship outreach effort of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, offering educational programs to residents of all of Illinois' 102 counties - and far beyond. Communities are directly served by Extension staff in 77 unit offices located throughout Illinois. Extension educators located in 12 centers across the state and specialists located on the U of I campus develop and deliver in-depth programming locally, in regional venues, and through distance-learning technologies. Through learning partnerships that put knowledge to work, U of I Extension's programs are aimed at making life better, healthier, safer and more profitable for individuals and their communities. U of I Extension offers educational programs in: Family & Consumer Sciences; Agriculture, Natural Resources and Horticulture; 4-H & Youth Development; and Community and Economic Development Development.

The Moultrie-Douglas Extension Unit has been located in Arthur since 1992, when the two counties joined together. There are currently seven full-time staff members, since the addition of Lori Ashley-Anderson as Program Coordinator in Ag, Hort & Natural Resources, and Libby Spannagel as Community Worker in 4-H. In May of 2007, the Unit went through a Program Review, which is conducted on a five-year rotation. The review is conducted to identify strengths and weaknesses of the Unit's programming and to recommend specific changes where needed to improve the overall quality. The Moultrie-Douglas Unit did quite well in the review, with very few changes recommended. This Annual Report highlights just a few programs offered this year, but emphasizes just how great Extension relies on and values partnerships with other entities. Extension believes in utilizing volunteers and the strengths of other agencies to deliver quality programming to the county residents.
