Alfalfa Workshop: "Positioning for Success"
This program will be held Monday, February 8, 2010 at 9:20 a.m. Moultrie-Douglas Extension office.
Topics to be covered include:
- "What Developments in Forage Species—What it Means to Producers" - Dr. Neal Martin, US Dairy Forage Research Center, Madison, WI
- "Harvesting Biomass Crops" - Dr. Kevin Shinners, University of Wisconsin-Madison
- "Tips for Successful Alfalfa Stand Establishment" - Dr. Keith Johnson, Purdue University
- "Who Should Harvest my Alfalfa—a Custom Operator or Me?" - Jim Endress, University of Illinois Extension
Cost for the workshop is $15 per person and pre-registration is required by calling 543-3755.

February 19, 2010 - Pesticide Safety Education Program beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Arthur Community Building.
The reporting of rainfall totals ended on September 6, and Moultrie-Douglas Extension would like to extend thanks to the volunteer reporters in Moultrie and Douglas Counties.
Moultrie County reporters were Dean Creviston, Topflight Grain, Robert Riley, Roy Smith, Tom & Sara Gale, Ron Adams, John & Jo Watkins, Julian Black, Rick & Lucille Crawford, Yoder Drainage, Lyla Riley, Ida May Bragg, John Doty, and Todd Maxedon.
Reporters in Douglas County were Steve Mutch, Danny & Gaye Powell, Steve Warters, Kevin Breen, Westridge Agri-Service, Tim Spannagel, Maryann Mayhall, David Young, Archie Dague, Joyce Hemingway, Amy Richardson, Mary Lee Warfel, Don Munson, and DuWayne Miller.

Moultrie-Douglas Extension is looking for a volunteer reporter in East Nelson Twp., in the general area north of Allenville and east of Sullivan. Next year, the reporting season will run from March 29 to September 5. Reporting consists of reading a rain gauge every morning and sending in weekly totals by postcard, phone or email.
Please contact the Extension office if you live in this general area and would be willing to volunteer your time to report rainfall totals.
