Getting Ready for the Fair
Coming up in April your 4-H leaders will be distributing your 4-H Fairbooks and your fair entry forms.
Entry Forms
Look over your entry forms very carefully. If you have any missing projects, you can notify the Extension Office by calling 543-3755 or you can write the name of the project on your entry form and include the class you wish to exhibit in.
Entry forms are due to the Extension Office no later than June 1, 2008 or post-marked by June 1, 2008.
It is the responsibility of the 4-H member to notify the Extension Office of any missing projects or corrections that need to be made to entry forms. It is also the responsibility of the 4-H member to ensure that entry forms are turned in by deadline.
4-H Fairbooks
Your club leader will distribute 4-H fairbooks during the month of April. Read over your project areas carefully and make sure you follow the exhibition rules.
Please be sure to follow deadlines:
May 1 - Last day to enroll and still exhibit
June 1 - Last day to turn in entries
Moultrie-Douglas 4-H Week kicked off on Sunday, April 16 with a skating party at the Silverstar Skate Center in Mattoon. Over 50 4-H'ers, friends and family were in attendance.
During the month of March, several 4-H clubs participated in 4-H Week by putting up a 4-H Window Display. Clubs that participated this year were: Atwood-Hammond Prairie Dogs, Awesome Arthur Clovers, Country Clovers, Moultrie County Longhorns, Silver Spurs and Sunnyside Flea Flickers. Each club will receive $10 for their club treasury.
This year's 4-H Week theme and events were organized by 4-H Jr Leaders.
Members were asked to invite friends to their March club meeting and enrollment forms along with the 4-H member names were entered into a drawing for a DVD player. The winner of the DVD player was Kyle Drury of Moultrie County Longhorns 4-H club. Congrats Kyle!
We hope you enjoyed 4-H Week and made plenty of 4-H Memories.
The Moultrie-Douglas Horse Show will be held on Friday, August 1st at the Coles County Fairgrounds. This year, both counties will combine their shows. This will provide 4-H'ers a greater opportunity for competition at a local level and allows them to meet 4-H members from Coles county. The horse superintendent for this year is Pam Swinford.
Horse Ownership & Lease papers are DUE to the Extension Office: May 1, 2008. Do not complete the lease form unless you are leasing your horse from another owner.
You must include a color photo of each side of your horse that clearly shows markings. If you are unsure of how to fill your papers out, please check with your club leader.
Dates to Remember:

Last date to turn in entries for State Jr Horse Show to Extension Office May 30
Last date for 1st time horse exhibitors to complete QAEC June 9
State Jr Horse Show July 22-27

New Livestock Superintendents
Two new livestock superintendents join us this year, they are Erik Stollard, beef and Tim Walker, swine. Both Erik and Tim bring many years of experience and knowledge to our 4-H program and we look forward to working with them during this fair season.
If this is your first year exhibiting livestock at the Illinois State Fair, you need to complete Quality Assurance and Ethics Certification.
It's very east. Just visit: http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/qaec/ and complete the brief lesson and test. Your completion will be automatically sent to the Illinois State Fair.
Annual Pork Quality Assurance
Annual PQA re-certification is required for State Fair Jr. swine exhibitors. The National Pork Board Association promotes this training in an effort to increase the understanding of how pork producers are an important link for safe and healthy meat in the food chain. If you intend to show, please contact the Extension Office for training information.
