Award Winners

Fifty-two Illinois Master Gardeners were honored for individual awards at the state annual convention in Springfield, IL. on September 7, 2007. State Outstanding Master Gardener Award winners actively volunteered in the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener program, completed over 120 hours of service beyond their internship, and were nominated for outstanding service by their Extension county director, horticulture educator, or Master Gardener coordinator. Those receiving the Sustained Excellence Award must have volunteered as Master Gardeners for at least three years beyond their internship, have previously received the Outstanding Master Gardener Award, have completed at least 300 hours of service since receiving the Outstanding Master Gardener Award, and again, be nominated by their local Extension staff. The Master Gardener Teamwork Award was initiated to honor groups of Master Gardeners who focused on a team approach to problem-solving. These projects demonstrated measurable achievements in the local community or in Master Gardener program management.

New for 2007 was the digital photo contest. Over 160 pictures were submitted in four categories and a first, second and third place photo was chosen in each category.
