2007 Ewing Scholarship Recipient

Barbie D. Price, a senior at Illinois State University, has been awarded the Ewing Memorial Fund Scholarship for 2007. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to selected applicants with 60 or more credit hours or to graduate students majoring in Family & Consumer Sciences or related majors, who are currently enrolled in an accredited Illinois college or university. The scholarship is sponsored by McLean County Home and Community Education Association. After earning her Business Certificate and an Associate's Degree from Heartland Community College, Barbie chose to continue her education at Illinois State University. She is majoring in Teacher Education (grades 6 12) in the Family & Consumer Sciences Department, and will be student teaching in Spring 2008. Her minor is sociology. Barbie wants to teach in McLean County after graduation. In addition to her coursework, Barbie has served as chapter president of the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences at Illinois State and is a Mu Chapter member of Delta Kappa Pi International Honor Society in Education. She is also a charter member of the T.E.A.C.H. Association at Heartland Community College. Barbie volunteers as a tutor and student mentor through the America Reads/Counts Program at Fairview Elementary School and the UNITY Community Center, both in Normal. She also works parttime with students enrolled in the Adult Education Program at Heartland Community College. Barbie has lived in Bloomington, Ill. since 1988 and is the proud mother of two children: Mikhayla and Matthew. She enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with her family and friends. She loves college and learning new things, and she is very excited to do her part to help educate youth in McLean County. A big fan of both volunteering and education, Barbie truly shares a passion for the family and consumer sciences profession.
