We would like clubs to display their banners in Cloverleaf Auditorium at the Interstate Center during the fair. Clubs may hang their banners up after the Flag Raising Ceremony on Friday evening – July 28. Remember to assign someone to pick up your banner on Saturday, August 2 during check out!
Club 4-H Banners can be an excellent method of identifying your 4-H Club and can also serve several other functions. Clubs may hang their banners at their regular meeting places, carry them in parades, use them in window displays or club displays, and may also use them as a way to display any club award patches the club may receive.
Banners may be decorated in any way and may basically be made of any type of material. The only "requirement" is the name of the club must be included on the banner. Counties may have an option of asking clubs to include the county name.
Instructions are included below for a banner as well as a standard for the banner.
Banner Instructions
Banner's final size should be approximately 30 x 36 inches to fit on the standard. Any materials may be used. The club name should be on the banner, along with 4-H or the 4-H symbol. Other decoration is optional. However, room should be left to attach patches the club may receive.
The top of the banner should be made so that it may slide on the standard. Individual loops (approximately 1-1/2 to 3 feet long) may be used or some other method of attaching provided.
Standard Instructions
You may purchase the following at a store that sells plumbing supplies:
One 10 foot length of 3/4 inch Genova plastic water pipe
One 3/4 inch Genova tee
One 3/4 inch Genova coupling
Two 3/4 inch Genova caps
Cut the 10' length of pipe as follows:
Two pieces of pipe 16 inches long
Two pieces of pipe 36 inches long
(Remove all burrs caused by cutting the pipe)
Using suitable Genova Cement glue the 36 inch piece to the bottom of the tee. Glue a cap on the end of each of the 16 inch pieces. Then glue the coupling on the end of each of the 36 inch piece of pipe. It is now ready to assemble. Be careful not to get any glue on other openings.
An artificial Christmas tree stand or a flag stand may be used to keep the banner standing. Make a case of material or use a cardboard shipping tube for a carrying case.
