Seasonal Inquiries
Q: Read your article on the Internet about thawing a turkey. I have a question. I bought a 18 pound turkey last night (Wednesday), fully frozen. I have it in the refrigerator, but will not cook until next Wednesday night. Will that be ok? Should I put it in the freezer until closer to Wednesday? Please help!
A: For that size of a turkey....It could take 4 days to thaw out. #1 You can leave it in the coldest part of your refrigerator (bottom shelf in the back). Or #2 Keep it frozen until Saturday and then put it back in the refrigerator. If it was "rock hard" frozen when you brought it home you might opt to leave it in the refrigerator starting now. My experience and other's experiences have been... it takes longer to thaw than charts say! Enjoy!
Q: I have made a jello salad with cranberries and celery. Will it be ok to serve it next Thursday for Thanksgiving?
A: Not for the best quality. The celery may turn a little brown around the edges and get soggy.
Q: Recipe for Hot Buttered Rum? A: I searched and chose a crock pot version.
