from Pat Backsmeier, Nutrition Education Program Assistant
This week kicked off the Bloomington Hoursing Authority tutor program! We made Sunrise Smoothies and had a fruit paper activity for them as well. We broke the group into 2 parts so that the kids could participate in the process of making the smoothies. The smoothies were very well received!!
At Kathy Johnson's request we are taking a break from Jr. Chefs for October. I working on programming beginning again in November.
I also met with the Irving Elementary school principal to talk about getting our wellness program into this school. Our information was very well received. His thought was that he would like to see us work with the PE teacher. He needed to talk to others and said he would get back to me.
I also had Fitness Fun Night at Pepper Ridge Elementary. I thought this event was very well attended! I had about 160 kids and 50 parents stop by my booth. I did the comparison of the Snickers bar to a homemade snack mix. I had snack mix already bagged except for the sweet add-ins. They got to choose from mini marshmallows, mini M&Ms, and chocolate chips. I had prepared 120 baggies and only the children got them but we still ran out. I also spoke with the PE teacher about our Wellness program. (The Pepper Ridge principal had acknowledged receipt of my letter about our program.) I will be getting back to her with more information.
