"BARN KEEPERS" is the name of the newly officially organized barn enthusiasts, previously known as the McLean County Barn Group. A set of by-laws with organizational structures, officers and membership guidelines was approved with some 28 members present to become Charter members. The 350 persons presently on the mailing list will be invited to also become Charter members in a mailing later this month.
Following adoption of the new by-laws, a new Board was elected including Dave Burroughs, Jean Cooper, Mark Edwards, Ron Ropp, Laura Welton, Jim Williams and Wally Yoder. Officers elected by the board were: Ropp, Pres.; Yoder, V.Pres.; Welton, Sec.; and Cooper, Treas. The new organization will be applying for non-profit status to assist those making donations, etc.
Most of the original goals of promoting the appreciation, preservation and restoration of barns and farm structures will remain the same. The need to avoid regional boundaries is noted in the new name and persons from adjoining counties are invited to participate. The new organization is also geared to help strengthen new and current programming .
Three levels of "membership" invites 'Individuals' as well as organizations who wish to 'Affiliate,' and 'Special' persons or groups making significant contributions to support Barn Keepers goals.
Meetings of the group are held the second Thursday of Feb., May, Sept. and Nov. For further information feel free to contact McLean Co. Extension Office (663-8306) or Ron Ropp (452-8534).
