Barn retreat near Cooksville
Thursday, May 28 7 p.m. The Jere and Virginia Payne Barn 2050 N. 2900 E. Rd. (Or 1 ½ miles North of Cooksville on 2900 E.)
Jere will be there to speak along with his grandson (a great helping hand). Jere will also offer rides in the "Gator"if anyone would like a tour of the nature area along the Mackinaw. If you want an example of a great modern day usage for your old barn, check it out. It is a 30' X 30' two story barn with a 14' X 50' lean-to. It was built around 1900. After years of neglect, Jere had a vision to convert the old barn into a "lodge" for family gatherings, wedding receptions or as a 'retreat site'. Using material from other barns to match the wood, etc., he has turned this turn of the century barn into a three level retreat site that could actually be used for a living quarters. The lean-to on the side has been converted into a garage and a patio is attached which overlooks the beautiful trees along the Mackinaw River. A carpenter friend, Sam Gibson, has given Jere major assistance in designing and completing this work. Sam will be on hand to answer questions about the project. Don't miss this one! This barn has been totally transformed into a fabulous retreat for the Payne family to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life in Lexington. This is a great opportunity to see a unique barn - situated in picturesque surroundings.
