Small Farms, Organic Production and Sustainable Agriculture Information

  • 5th National Small Farm Conference
    The 5th National Small Farm Conference, "Roadmap to Success for Small Farmers and Ranchers" will be held September 15-17, 2009 in Springfield, Illinois. The conference, held every three to four years, brings together land grant universities, community-based organizations and other stakeholders who work with small farmers and ranchers. The conference aims to strengthen collaboration and partnership among groups and provide an opportunity to share new ideas in research, extension and outreach.

  • Agroecology/Sustainable Agriculture Program
    ASAP's mission is to facilitate and promote research and education which protects Illinois' natural and human resources while sustaining agricultural production forever. The program's current focus is to help farmers, students and society at large understand the opportunities for additional economic and ecosystem health with both sustainable and organic approaches.

  • eOrganic
    eOrganic, a part of eXtension, is a new Community of Practice created to address information gaps among many land grant universities for science-based information relevant to organic production systems.

    eXtension is an evolving, virtual, customer centered educational environment that provides the most current, objective research-based information from the Land Grant University System (LGU). eXtension is founded on the principles of aiding in the distribution of useful and practical information by representing all 74 land-grant systems.

  • Illinois Agritourism
    Agritourism is a growing segment of the rural economy in many areas of Illinois. Many farm based agritourism businesses that attract customers directly to the farm gate have existed and are being developed throughout the state.

  • Illinois Small Farms
    Illinois Small Farms provides information for the commercial small farmer as well as the small acreage landowner. The purpose of this website is to provide easy access to information for small-scale farmers and those who work with them.

  • Manure Share
    Illinois Manure Share is a free program that benefits livestock owners, gardeners, landscapers and the environment! It is a manure exchange program that brings gardeners and landscapers searching for organic materials for use in composting or field applications in contact with livestock owners who have excess manure.
