This six-part unit will help students learn about the relationship of fat to a healthy diet and the importance of good food choices. Each lesson is full of hand-on activities that are related not only to nutrition and health, but include experiences in math, English and science. The areas focus on:
- What is Fat? - identifying different types of fat and why fat is essential in the diet
- Where is the Fat? - looking at what foods contain fat
- Low Fat Food Choices - comparing the fat content of favorite foods and making healthy choices
- Meal Planning - determining grams of fat in the student's daily diet and planning balanced meals for the day
- Fast Foods: You Can Make Healthy Choices - choosing healthy foods from popular fast food menus
- Balancing Food With Fitness - balancing calorie intake vs. calories expended through daily activities including exercise and sports
