Add/drop forms and new member enrollments must be completed and turned in by March 31, 2010, to show at the 2010 McHenry County Fair. Program Fee

As of September 1, 2009, a yearly program fee of $25 per member was implemented, with a cap of $50 per family (2, $25 fees) and $10 for each additional child in the family thereafter. This fee applies to all clubs including community clubs, clover buds, and special interest groups. The program fee must be turned in with the member's enrollment forms to the leader.

Upcoming Events for 2010

Horse Bowl

It's time to start thinking about Horse Bowl for 2009/2010! McHenry County has a proud tradition of excellence at regional, state and national competitions, and we invite you to join the fun. During the Horse Bowl contest, two four-person teams compete by answering questions about horses in a quiz bowl format (think of it as equine Jeopardy!). Team members meet regularly to study topics from horse reference books to prepare for the spring contests. You do not need to own a horse to participate. The first practice session will be held on October 15 at 7pm at the Extension Office. Come on out to make new friends and learn about horses! Call Sandy Kucharski, Junior Team Coach (for ages 8-13) at 815/568-6772, or Susan Parker, Senior Team Coach (for ages 14-19) at 815/477-7116.

Horse Project Requirement

4-H horse project members MUST attend two McHenry County 4-H Horse Committee approved clinics to be eligible to show at the 2010, 4-H horse show at the McHenry County Fair. The youth must sign the official sign-in sheet and stay for the entire clinic to receive credit.

Horse Project Orientation Meeting

The first clinic of the year will be held on Tuesday, January 26 at 7pm with the location to be announced in the following newsletter. All 4-H horse project members should attend this meeting to learn of any questions that will be asked for the coming year and receive the program of clinics, the horse packet, and learn about other horse opportunities. This will count as a clinic.

Dog Orientation and Registration

You won't want to miss the dog obedience and showmanship orientation on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 10am at the McHenry County Fairgrounds, Building D. Youth and parents will have the opportunity to meet the 4-H Dog Committee and learn what is expected of a 4-H member showing a dog at next year's McHenry County Fair. Study skills will be learned for the dog care and grooming class for questions that will be asked at the dog show. Dog packets will be available at this meeting, and you will have a chance to sign up for obedience classes upon proof of shots on that day. This will count as one of the two clinics you will need to be eligible to show next year.

The fee for dog obedience and showmanship has been lowered this year to $5.00 per class with a family not to exceed $15.00 since the major equipment needed for the program has been purchased. (This fee is in addition to the $25 yearly program fee.)
