Regional Horse Bowl/Hippology Contest
Lake County hosted this year's regional horse Hippology contest on Sat., March 28. The following youth placed in the top ten of each division:

Josa, Sydney and Rachel will travel on to the State contest on April 25.
The McHenry County Junior and Senior teams placed 3rd at the Regional contest. Congratulations on a job well done.
Regional 4-H Horse Judging Contest
Regional 4-H Horse Judging Contest
Thirty– six youth from four counties competed in the Regional 4-H Horse Judging Contest held on March 14. An excellent clinic was given by Jenifer Lindgren, Crown Point, Indiana. Youth were judged in 6 classes—stock horse halter, hunter-type halter, miniature horse halter, Western pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle and Hunter Hack.
Awards were given to the top Jr and Sr from each county and ribbons were awarded for the top six Jrs and Srs. overall. Results for the Regional Horse judging is as follows:

Upcoming Horse Clinics
Natural Horsemanship clinic will be held at KarMik Acres in Crystal Lake on Thursday, April 23 from 7-8:30 pm. For directions, visit www.karmikacres.com and click on "Contact Us" for a MapQuest link.
Trail Clinic—Wayne Bredehorst from the Windswept Farm, 6406 Schultz Road, Harvard will have a trail course set up for 4-Her's and their horses on Saturday, May 9 from 2-5 pm. All horses must have a current negative Coggins certificate with them.
These clinics are approved by the Horse committee.Reminder: In order to show a horse at the McHenry County Fair, project members must attend TWO Horse Committee approved clinics.
Horse Weeknight Warm-Ups
Weeknight sessions in the horse arena at the McHenry County Fairgrounds in Woodstock are offered to help riders and their horse become acquainted with the county fair horse show site. 4-Hers intending to show in novice classes at the fair are required to attend one weeknight warm-up session in June or July with their green sheeted horse. These novice riders must check in with a committee member upon arrival that evening to receive credit for attendance. Weeknight warm-ups DO NOT count as approved clinics. Weeknight warm ups will be held from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. June 16, 23, 30, July 7, 14, and 21. Gates open at 6:00pm. Be ready to ride at 6:30 pm. Horses must be loaded by 8:30 pm and ready to leave. Horse Team Tournament
Kane County will host the 4-H Horse Team Tournament. It is currently scheduled for Saturday, June 20, at the Fox Valley Saddle Association in Hampshire. For more information, to http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/kane/.

Congratulations to Levi Martin and Sarah Sheehan for being selected at the State Dairy Bowl Contest to serve on this year's Illinois State Dairy Bowl Team. Philip Shanks placed first alternate. The Contest was held on February 28 in Champaign. Congratulations for a job well done.
Sheep Weigh-In
Sheep weigh in for market lambs will be Saturday, May 9 at the McHenry County Fairgrounds, sheep barn from 10 am to noon.
Youth planning to go to the Illinois state fair showing sheep must go to one of the following locations to be weighed and have electronic ear tags placed in. The cost is $2.00 per lamb.

Ethics
4-H/FFA quality Assurance and Ethics are required for all 4-H members in their first year of showing beef, dairy, dog, goats, horses, sheep, swine, and poultry. Ethics will need to be retaken if it is your first year going to the Illinois State Fair with an animal. The URL for the site will be http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/qaec/.
This site closes for horses on June 9 and all other departments on July 1.Upon completion. Please print the affidavit and the certificate, sign them, and turn them into the Extension Office. If you have any questions, please contact the office or reserve time on the office computer to take the training.
