Illini Summer Academies
LIVE IT UP! Lead, Inspire, Value & Explore is the 2009 theme for this year's academies. Illinois teens will be able to try new opportunities to explore the University of Illinois campus; study potential careers or leadership skills over a 3 day event.
This 3 day event is planned for youth by youth. Naomi Spears from Trail Blazers 4-H club is serving as
chairman of the committee.
There will be six Academies this year offering 15 hours of interactive activities and study in a specific field of interest. These are new from last year.
The event is open to Illinois high school teens, incoming freshmen to graduating seniors for the fall of 2009. Youth must be 14 to 18 years of age by September 1, 2009.
Registrations and more information will be found on the McHenry County web site early March.
4-H Camp Shaw
Camp Shaw will be up and online soon for camp registration for the 2009 season. Visit Camp Shaw at their web site www.campshaw.org.
Anti Smoking Campaign Contest
Anti Smoking Campaign Contest
The McHenry County Department of Health is conducting a media campaign for high school and college students. Designs should have a social norms message from any of the following categories: Tobacco Prevention, Secondhand Smoke, or Quit Smoking.
Social norms messages correct misperceptions of social behavior. For example, 'Join the Crowd' - '3 out of 4 Teens Don't Smoke'. This message corrects the myth that most teens smoke.
