Lights...Camera...4-H—National 4-H Week
All youth are invited to take part in a 4-H Individual Poster Contest (in addition to club window display) during National 4-H Week, October 5-11. This is your opportunity to polish your creativity and create a fantastic 4-H poster promoting 4-H in your community. In addition to promoting 4-H awareness, you will have the opportunity to win a $50.00 Savings Bond as top prize. Ambassador Group
Youth interested in learning about promoting 4-H, leadership and communication skills are interested in the McHenry County Ambassadors. Youth are invited to attend an Orientation meeting on Sunday, September 14 or Monday, September 15 at 7:00 pm at the Extension Office.
4-H Ambassadors develop promotion skills, leadership skills, communication skills, do group community service projects and promote 4-H through presentations at outside organizations.

MCHENRY COUNTY YOUTH TECH TEAM
McHenry County Youth Tech Team
The McHenry County Youth Tech Team enjoys working with working on computer science along with the latest up dates and skills computers have to offer. Science, Engineering, and Technology are a very important part of today's world both for young men and women.
The MCYTT is open to all youth ages 8-19 years of age and meets the fourth Saturday of the month at the Extension Office at 9 am. For more information please contact Bob Gallagher at 847-515-7578.
Horse Bowl
Practice sessions for the 2008/2009 Horse teams will begin soon. During a 4-H Horse Bowl contest, four-person teams compete by answering questions related to horses in a quiz bowl format. Areas of which questions may be asked include: Breeds, Anatomy, Nutrition of the Horse, Feeds and Feeding, Reproduction of the horse, Genetics, Health, Basic Horsemanship, Horse Care and Handling and Tack are among information youth will study.
McHenry County may have more than one team in Junior or Senior areas. Teams are divided into Junior (ages 8-13) and Seniors (ages 14-19) categories. Team members meet regularly to study horse reference books with their coaches in order to prepare for the spring contests. You Do Not Need to Own a Horse to participate. Join Horse Committee
If your are interested in sharing your talents and time the horse committee is looking for you. New Members are welcome to help plan clinics, events, and assist at the fair. The committee meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Extension Office at 7 p.m.
Join Creative Quilters
Love to sew—be creative—work with your hands!!! Creative Quilters is for you. Youth ages 8-19 are welcome to learn new skills, be creative with colors and fabrics, learn hand and machine sewing techniques.
Creative Quilters meets on the fourth Monday of each month 6:30-8:00 pm at the Extension Office. For more information please contact the Extension Office at 815-338-4747.
Holiday Workshop
With the holidays around the corner mark your calendar today for December 6, 9 am at the Extension Office. Holiday gifts from the heart and the hands means so much to the one the gift is going to.
Holiday gifts for this year include: Glass-Ball Wreath (glass balls wired into bunches and then wired to frames), Holiday Rickrack Crafts, Candy Cane Vase, Fresh Green Door Hanging, Stenciling or Free Hand Painting (serving trays, purses, tote bags, and assortment of wood items) plus much, much more.
The cost for the day is $10.00 pre-registration for this event is required.
March Project Day Meeting
Volunteers, both youth and adult are invited to a planning meeting for March 7 Project Day. The planning committee will meet on Thursday, November 20 at 7 pm in the Extension Conference Room.
Say It With A Valentine
McHenry County 4-H has received a large donation of Valentines. In November these Valentines will be divided among all of the clubs in McHenry County including Cloverbuds. Clubs are being asked to make Valentine bags and fill them for guests in nursing homes, senior centers, military men and woman, and other seniors in your area. These Valentines can be signed by members and mailed overseas in time for service people to receive in February. We encourage each individual to take part in this first county community service project.
Support Kids Care Week
Help celebrate Kids Making a Difference Week October 20-25. Kids Care Week is dedicated to recognizing the power of kids to reach out and help others in their local community. During the week young people will have the opportunity to focus on specific social issues through a service project of their choice.
