I want to send out a heartfelt thank you to the following 4-H Clubs that I visited so far: Scotland Clever Clovers, Town And County Clovers, 4-H Goal Diggers, Bushnell Busy B's, and McDonough County Mounties. Waste Oil Recycling Program
McDonough County 4-H and Extension Foundation will be hosting a waste oil collection, here at the 4-H Center, on Friday, November 6 from 10:00-Noon.

Did you see the following clubs in locale parades? Bushnell Busy B's were in B-PCA Homecoming and McDonough County Mounties were in the WIU Homecoming! Thanks to all the clubs who put the 4-H Clover out for all to see.
We have a couple adults leaders who are planning on attending the Shooting Sports training in November. Our other interested leaders have to wait and take the training in March. Once our leaders have completed their training and are in place I will send out information on how we plan to proceed. Thanks for your patients as we are working with the development of this new project area. If you have, or know someone, who has an interest in archery, shotgun, or rifle (air and .22) contact Tessa. Scotland Clever Clovers Award Winners
The Scotland Clever Clovers were named as of one of the 2009 Illinois State Club winners in Community Involvement and Global Awareness and received a cash prize for their hard work. Congratulations!
Federation is a group of 4-H members 14 and older from different clubs in McDonough County that meet once a month to plan community activities and programs for the members in all clubs. Now is the time of year each club should choose at least two Federation representatives. Having Federation representatives allows your club to know about upcoming activities as well as assure your clubs interests are represented when planning activities. All older members are encouraged to attend along with the two voting delegates. Federation meets the 2nd Sunday each month at 1:00-4-H Center.

The Junior Show Committee, (Building & Grounds) have set the dates for the 2010 Fair!
The dates have been set for Great Debate. Join high school aged teens from across the state as you learn the working of government. Dates are February 12 and 13.
Mark your calendars to attend this conference. It will be held on February 12 - 13 in Nauvoo. Youth 12 through 14 years of age on conference date can register to attend the fun filled weekend. Who Did It?: CSI... Find clues and learn skills of investigating, exploring skills and examining personal traits.. Science, leadership, interactive fun; overnight stay with hotel accommodations , food and entertainment included. $55.00 for early bird registration-1/15/2010 and $60.00 until final deadline 1/22/10. Minimum of 50 and maximum of 80 to attend. Call and secure your spot since spaces fill up fast! Members 12-14 will be receive more information soon!

Blandinsville Blue Ribbons
The Blandinsville Blue Ribbons held their regular meeting on October 12th. They had 9 members present with 4 guests. Kody Bowman, Secretary lead the meeting. Courtney Butterfield gave a talk on taking care of goats, and recreation leader, Carson Welsh, lead the club in a corn shelling contest. After the corn shelling contest, the club members decorated pumpkins to be taken to the La Harpe Nursing Home. Drinks and snacks were enjoyed, and the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be November 9th at 7:00 p.m. at the Blandinsville Christian Church.

National 4-H Engineering Challenge
October 2009-Purdue University
Individual and Team competitions are held at the challenge. Contestants answered questions related to aerospace, bicycles computers, electric energy, lawn tractors, small engines, tractors, robots, and welding.
Contestants spent a day on education field trips and workshops in the department of Electrical Engineering Technology, Agricultural & Biological Engineering, Aviation Technology as well as guided tours of Subaru and Caterpillar Engine Plant where they showcased engineering an technology skills in manufacturing.
Illinois members placed in Tractor, Welding, Electric Energy and Robotics. 4-H members from neighboring Hancock and Warren attended.

Important Enrollment Information
4-H Year
Youth who are at least eight years old on September 1 and not 19 or older are eligible for membership. Every year, all members and leaders are required to complete the 4-H Individual Enrollment form. Please return these to your leader so they can get them in the office as soon as possible. The last day to receive the enrollments and be eligible to exhibit at 2010 fair is December 1. Reminder, each member must selected at least one project area to be considered an active 4-H member. Each member will be assessed a 4-H Program Fee of $20.00, and any project manuals selected.
State 4-H Program Fee Implemented
4-H enrollment includes a state-mandated $20.00 per year 4-H Program fee to be applied to all members. The $20.00 is due with your enrollment. Families who wish to apply for the family cap will need to notify the office at time of enrollment to receive the discount provided by the McDonough County Federation. Family cap is more than two
4-H members. Some clubs will be assisting members with program fee, each club will have their own regulations. No member will be refused membership because of inability to pay. To apply for a Foundation scholarship to cover your 4-H program fee, contact McDonough County 4-H and Extension Foundation Representative Alice Thorman at 837-1433.

Your 4-H individual and project enrollment forms are due in the Office by December 1. If you were in 4-H last year, they must be returned by this date. You have until March 31, 2010 to add or remove project selections. * Excludes adding Livestock.
New members are welcome at any time, but to exhibit in the 4-H fair the summer 2010 individual and project enrollments must be in office by March 31, 2010.
